Nashville roadtrip 17-18feb
Sunday, February 24 2:19 AM

yay! tests all over!

last saturday we went on a roadtrip to Nashville. 4 hours drive, and it was nicee (altho Helen was nicer haha)
17feb - First we went to Parthenon in nashville, which is a replica of the real thing in greece.

Then we dropped by at this music place, cos essentially Nashville is this country music town. But we didnt go into the museum (long story), so we just took pics outside

Then at night we went shopping...but instead of the same-old shopping, we entered this super cool shop that sold all hunting stuff - rifles, crossbows, camouflage coats, instruments to make bird calls, traps...
And finally late at night, we all couldnt sleep and were really itching to go out. So a small group of us drove out, and experienced a vibrant nightlight in the music town.

We met a policeman on his Harley Davidson...and he let us all play with his bike!!! The guys were sooo excited, like little boys =p

18feb - The next morning, while the rest went to the parthenon, 7 of us took a trip to Jack Daniel's to see how really good whiskey is made...fun! and free tour!

Ever smelt conc. alcohol? Yep. and it takes ur breath away.literally. I inhaled it and stopped breathing for 1 sec.

Dark cellar where they keep the whiskey...v.full of secrets and mysteries hehheh

Then we hung around the area, and was recommended by the locals this place for lunch: THE IRON KETTLE.
Cute name, cute cozy eating place, nice adverts on the ceiling, and good cheap food.
We saw on the menu: cheeseburger, add 40cents for whiskey. So we thot 'why not'? And the meal came...no glass of whiskey to be seen. Took a bite of the burger and OMG whiskey in the meat...damn strong! they must have SOAKED it or something. The guys were soooo happy.
Everything seems so huge and spacious in the south - endless skyyyyy

Happy vday 2008 in Atlanta USA
Friday, February 15 2:29 PM

This is, without a doubt, the best Valentine's Day I've ever had. All along i've wondered why people are so shocked when I tell them that my past vdays have been spent at home, sipping hot milo, listening to music, relaxing and chilling out.

And now I know why.

Thank You! All of you who have supported and helped me make this day what it should be. =D

Happy Vday!

much luv,
fenfen =)

Updates on life here:

The package sent to me was new year clothes, a Howl's Moving Castle storybook, and one angpow. I luv my parents and bro.

Wednesday's Bball game of Hawks versus LA Lakers was the best game I've ever seen in my life. My very first game too, and the energy was contagious. We originally supported the Lakers cos we heard they were good, but then we realised that the Hawks weren't that bad. In fact they had pretty good players. So by halftime, we all switched sides. Still the Lakers were winning...until nearing the end where they pulled slightly ahead by 1 or 2 points, and things got interesting. The tension mounted and by the last 10 mins, the whole stadium was on its feet - shouting! chanting "De-fense!" "Let's go Hawks". People were jumping. Ss beside me was jumping shouting screaming. Mm was biting her nails. And everyone screamed to support or boo at players. And we (the HAWKS) won!!!

I'm hooked on basketball games like this. We'll definitely try and get tickets to another Hawks game or a Gtech bbal game. Shiokalicious! The commericals, cheerleader routine, mascot, marching band, Kiss Cam made the experience even better.

Thursday's steamboat was good too, and we all ate till we were so full. And then we gals took out Samuel's cake cos by then it was midnight and it was his Birthday! Upside-down banana cake made by ss, mm and me. I shall rem how hilariously we tried to secretly light the candles. Intro of the 'game'.

Friday came and we went out for Samuel's birthday. Pizza for dinner, and then we went over to mm's place. Kinda got distracted by the piano - fun! And then we went up for the highlight of the day - drinking. Too bad we were so noisy that eventually we took all the stuff and continued drinking at my place. My first drinking event - so here's what I tried:
Vodka ribena =D
Vodka + sprite (yucks)
Tequila + lemon (yucks)

The vodka had like 40% alcohol content, so after many rounds of drinking games, Jeff lost many rounds consecutively (damn suay!), and he got tipsy. Everyone, that was there, now agrees that he has great entertaining value when he's drunk. Ss now watches the video (of tipsy Jeff) for laughs. Too bad we didn't video certain things. Lolx. Drinking is definitely not my thing (it all tastes horrible anw), although the guys can hold their liquor. I'll say that was a pretty interesting night.

Saturday night was the night where we all were invited to the steamboat party. Another interesting and educational night. The 'game' began that night too.

Now Tuesday's here, and I just handed in a paper today, and there's a test tomorrow. Wish us psych gals luck!

Wednesday's bday + Thursday's vday + Roadtrip to Nashville in the weekends completes a fully packed eventful memorable week.

------------------------------------------------------------------

cny packages
Thursday, February 7 4:41 AM

The long awaited match is tonight! Atlanta Hawks versus LA Lakers! and i just can't wait.

Another good thing is that mm got her package of goodies today *sings happily* ss was super duper high when she was carrying it back.

And I got a surprise package from my parents...description on package: book and blouse. Unfortunately they told me to call them before I open it...and they're aslp now *sianz* Too bad abt the time difference. Anyway, like I told ss, I'll hide it inside my cupboard or something, so I won't be tempted to open it...at least until i've called my parents. =D

This day is looking GOOD

primate language
Wednesday, February 6 4:28 AM

It's drizzling out there, and the azure sky has turned pure white. Gorgeous.

Today's language lecture was pretty interesting. There was this guest lecturer who came to talk about studies that involved primates learning language (reminds me of patty). And she showed lots of videos, which made me wonder "why didn't patty show these videos in class?!?!". Our old cognitive text merely talked abt the chimps/apes/nim chimsky...but the 'ooh' factor only comes when we see the videos. At least it made the class wake up.

I'll be heading down to mini-chinatown later, to shop with samsam n e gals for steamboat stuff.

And I can't wait for tomorrow's bball game

-------------------------------------------------

xianxian - haha kk i won't be grumpy le. *shows innocent smile* heee i'll come back and show you that smile again. Thx gal, and Xing Nian Kuai Le! ^^
tingting - ya lor...Innocent Express is a private boat for the privileged few. haha! I still have the boat at home lehhh =) how's cny preparation?
ah min - come back fatter...a bit hard leh. I'll come back fitter lah...with arm muscles! lolx Happy Happy CNY to you toooo. Get lotsa angpows =p
jul - haha u still rem that cute little boat! Play boats in the rain with me, then i'll let you on the boat heehee =) tc of urself too hor
ah gong - I only gym, not bball. It's the guys who play bball...they invited us gals to play but we declined cos we don't know how to play, and we think we'll provide too much in-game entertainment value.
mighty mouse - hahah just saying hi.
sharon - of cos i wanna go loca luna with you all next time! so happening - surely will go - I have yet to taste vodka ribena *grins*

stephie waves hi to the rest. yups, the snow was fun, while it lasted.

stressing
Monday, February 4 1:02 AM

I must be crazy to be blogging now, but with so much work to do, and things to memorize, I just feel like throwing it all away and running out to have some fun.

Hate this feeling - it's the "oh don't worry, I still have time to study" and "I think I can just fall back on my jc bio knowledge, so why study" feeling. I know, I'm just self-handicapping.

And because I feel like this, I didn't do much yesterday, which just makes me feel even more sian. Oh, yesterday nite was fun! But it was fun with guilt, and that made me stressed, and pissed at people when I am usually not. And so I tolerated, and my black face alternated with my "smiley" face, mood-swinging until I didn't even know if I was happy or not.

But it must have showed, because my housemate asked me "what's wrong". To which I replied I was pms-ing, and she totally didn't buy that. So I said his actions was pissing me off, and then I realised I couldn't find one single action of his that I could find fault with. So I told her "give me 30mins, and I'll be alright again". I guess that worried her, cos later in the car she was asking me again.

Actually she (all of them, actually) was pretty tolerant of my bad mood yesterday, and that's something I shouldn't take for granted, and should be thankful for. She said he was unusally diplomatic to me, which is not necessarily a good thing. And the other one was sick, but I was too self-absorbed to realise that. I just hope I didn't spoil the mood yesterday.

Anyway, what really happened was that at 10pm, we realised Walmart closes at midnight. And since we had a car, we drove there to do late nite grocery shopping. And then after that, at 12, we drove to Waffle house, where we had chocolate chip waffles, blueberry waffles and lite waffles. On another perfectly normal day, I would have been estatic.

Healthy living in gtech
Sunday, February 3 3:55 AM

It's finally february, and for the past two nights i've been sleeping at 4am. Due to some horrendous 8 page report for Sensation and Perception psych (aka S&P). And then this coming monday we're having a biopsych test - 3 parts: Pass up 4 chapts of the colouring book + Complete take-home quiz + In-class test.

In the words of XX: Siao liao!

Although it still doesn't seem as bad as what my chem engin friends have - like I told mm n sharon, my kids will never take chem engin.

On a brighter note, once the biopsych test is over, there are lots of fun things to look forward to.
Wed: basketball match!
Thurs: steamboat!
Fri: Sm's bday!
Sun: February babies bdays!

How exciting. =) Anyway last weekend we took another roadtrip to this nearby town of Athens - full of super delicious food and cool nightlife. (pictures are mostly with sm though) And yesterday mm and sharon and some others went to this restaurant-cum-bar. It seemed a blast, and I'm waiting for my chance to try drinks like vodka ribena and lychee martini. Beer tastes HORRIBLE btw...I can't understand how sm and jeff like it so much. They're nuts.

Anyway we've all been living quite health-ly over here. Fruits, salads (on tues!), homecooked meals, a bit of gym at night (i'm quite addicted to sit-ups and threadmill). It's really a pity that each hall in NTU doesn't have a gym, and that the Sports recreation centre is tiny compared to the one at Gtech.

The guys are getting the sports-bug too, and every friday they have soccer matches or basketball matches where they form their own teams and play against anyone who'll play with them. It's becoming a 'tradition' and sometimes they'll talk about how they're gg to trash the other side for the next game.

I'm supposed to have swimming twice a week too, but so far we've either been too busy or something cropped up. Hence my swimming costume still lies unused in the drawer. Jeff tells us that there's a waterslide too, and Sharon and I got pretty excited about it. Speaking of sharon, the dear gal has yet to buy a swimming costume! She and mm prefer to jog around the campus though, so I guess I'll have to wait a little bit longer for my swimming sessions to start.

Oh and I'm rather partial to smoothies too, although I've only had 2 since I arrived.

PS: thanks for writing in my tagboard peeps...luv reading them, miss you all, and sorry for not replying for a long time. *hugs*
